  1. Place the sweet basil plant in a spot that gets at least six hours of sun per day. If the plant is indoors, it is best to place it near a window facing east. Make sure it is not in a cool place.
  2. Waters up to the base of the plant and try not to wet the leaves or stems. Let the soil dry out slightly between watering. If you grow basil indoors, apply fertilizer monthly. Do not water too much.
  3. Pruning the plant with your fingers to remove individual sheets or the whole top of it, when it reaches a height of about 6 inches (15 cm) and has at least three or four sets of leaves. If not pruned regularly or crops, the plant will cast flowers to produce seeds.
  4. Translates the basil indoors before the first autumn frost to prolong the life of the sweet basil plant.
