Feather Reed Grass

Feather reed grass will add height to your garden without you should do extra work. Most herbs, including ornamental, are easy to care for. They often grow in areas with poor soil and many varieties are drought tolerant. Herbs will add texture and variation to your garden as well as movement and sound in breeze.

But feather reed grass should grow shorter behind other garden plants. This makes them useful for dividing different areas of your garden or to separate yours from neighboring garden. Choose herbs that can reach a height of five feet (1.5 m) or more as big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii), or feather grass (acutiflora calamagrostis). Planted herbs thus also act as a backdrop for other garden plants.

While many gardeners do not usually think of grass as a tall plant, feather reed grass can collect up to 8 or even 12 feet (2.44 or 3.66 meters) tall. Some grasses grow tall and narrow leaves, and others get their height stems with showy flowers plumes. Most ornamental grasses are strong in USDA hardiness zones 4-11 plant, but gardeners should always check robustness of specific type of grass.
